Bracebridge, Muskoka · Since 1993
Some courses measure your game. This one remembers your name.
Don MacKay started this course with a shoestring, a tractor, and three boys too young to know they were building something that would outlast every trend the golf industry threw at it.
Thirty years later, the shoestring is still the operating model. The boys grew up. Andrew, Scott, and Russ. One of them came back to run the place. The tractor still works. So does Don.
He shows up at dawn. He knows your name by the second visit. He remembers your slice. He will recommend a club and mean it. He is not trying to impress anyone. He has been here thirty years and he has not once considered doing anything else.
There is a difference between a golf course and a place. This is a place.
The MacKay family — keeping the lights on, the greens honest, and the beer cold since July 1, 1993.

"The best round you'll ever play won't be your lowest score."
Eighteen holes through Canadian Shield granite and old-growth pine. Every hole has a view that makes you forget you shanked the last one.
Championship layout carved through shield rock, wetland, and forest. Not long. Not short. Just honest. The back nine will test your patience and reward your nerve. Bring a camera. Or don't — you will remember it anyway.
Overlooking the 18th green. The burger is the right call. The beer is always cold. Nobody is asking you to leave. This is where rounds get talked about for hours and putts get longer with every telling.
Equipment, apparel, and accessories chosen by someone who has actually used them on this course. Not by a purchasing algorithm. Not by a sales rep passing through. By Don.
Dogs on the course. Bagpiper on the first tee. Pay your age if you're under twenty-five. Six-hole rounds for anyone who only has an hour. This isn't how most courses operate. That's rather the point.
On weekends, a solo piper walks the course. Not a recording. Not a speaker. A real human being in full Scottish dress, playing the greens like they were made for it. Because in a way, they were.
Muskoka Highlands was built with a wee touch of Scotland in its bones. The layout, the feel, the stubbornness of the land. The piper just makes it official.
"Golf on weekends to the sound of a solo bagpiper walking the course."

"We loved our golf visit to Muskoka Highlands. The course was well maintained, greens were tough, fairways were fair as long as you stayed out of the long grass. We will return for another round."
"By far the best greens I have played on all summer. And I have played some nice courses this year!"
"I have played on some great golf courses this year but none of their greens compare to the greens at Muskoka Highlands. Always perfect. Great job Don and Nick. Keep up the great work."
Tee times fill up on weekends. Mornings go first. The brownie point crew gets here at six-thirty. You've been warned.
